Tree blocking northbound lanes of I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a tree blocking the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the 129 mile-marker. According to reports, motorists have taken to riding northbound on the southbound lanes. Deputies are asking that residents stay home if you do not have to evacuate.


Clarendon first responders not responding to emergency calls until conditions improve

Dispatchers report that all first responders – including EMS, firefighters and law enforcement – are currently seeking shelter and not answering calls. They are not responding to emergency calls until conditions improve.


All Manning traffic lights out

All traffic lights in Manning city limits are not working due to power outages. Currently, 10,758 homes are without power in the Clarendon area. If you must absolutely go somewhere l, please treat all lights as 4-way stops.


Epperson: Deluge should quit in a few hours

Clarendon County is looking at about 2.5 hours of rain left from Hurricane Matthew, according to Administrator David Epperson.
“It looks like it will begin to slack off after about 2:30 p.m. today,” said Epperson. “We have flooded roads and trees down, along with power lines. We want people to stay off the road unless they absolutely have to get out of their house due to water intrusion. Stay home, if you can.”
Epperson said that rain will drop off significantly after about 2 p.m., but the wind will continue through the evening.

These photos show the extent of flooding in downtown Manning.
“The Manning Fire and Police departments have had to rescue and transport people from their homes in Manning to a shelter,” Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said on Facebook. “I was sad to learn that Meadowfield Apartments are under water once more.”
She said the Manning High shelter had 235 people staying there as of 9 a.m. Saturday, while East Clarendon High School has 20 people.

SUMTER – Marguerite Pierson Morris, 95, widow of Carol Edwin Morris Sr., died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at McElveen Manor.
Born April 4, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late George and Evie Osteen Pierson. She was a very active member of Providence Baptist Church and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy.

About 5,000 residents throughout the county are now without power, according to Duke Energy and Santee Electric Cooperative outage maps.


Haley: Cyber threat during Matthew response

Gov. Nikki Haley warned during her morning press conference on Hurricane Matthew that unknown persons are sending emails and hacking computers based on providing information of power outages.
“Something interesting happened overnight in that people have begun to receive emails,” Haley said. “These emails claim to have updates on outages, and if you want to know the update, you click the link. Once you click there, they get into your computer. Do not click these. If you get emails such as this, delete them.”

About 2,015 folks are now without power in the Clarendon County area. Most of the outages are in the Pinewood, Rimini and Summerton and Jordan areas.
