TURBEVILLE - James "Alvy" Welch, 82, husband of Corine Beard Welch, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Carolinas Hospital after an illness.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemeter.

The family will greet friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at the funeral home.

Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late George Dargan Welch and Katherine Langston Welch. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, the owner and operator of Alvy’s Auto Electric, a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, a Gideon, and a member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Josephine Dawson; and two brothers, Larry “Morrell” Welch and George “Dickie” Welch.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include a daughter, Dr. Priscilla Welch of Manning; a son, Stephen (Dianna) Welch of Florence; three brothers, Garreth Welch of Pensacola, Florida, Robert James "R.J." Welch of Jedburg and Francis Welch of Scranton; two grandchildren, Lacey (Wes) Daniels of Hartsville and Logan Edens Hendrix of Florence; and a great-grandchild, James Wilson Daniels of Hartsville.
