Nearly 300 families in and around Jordan received non-perishable food items from Harvest Hope Food Bank on Tuesday through coordinated efforts of that agency's Disaster Relief Emergency Mobile Food Pantry, the Clarendon County Emergency Food and Shelter Board and United Ministries of Clarendon County.
Clarendon County Emergency Food and Shelter Board Chairman Hal Lowder said Harvest Hope delivered to 280 families about 300 boxes of peanut butter, jelly, potato chips, bread, canned items and soups.
It was the second such distribution in Clarendon County, with the first earlier this month in Summerton shortly after Hurricane Matthew swept through the area and put Clarendon in darkness for nearly a week.
"We had a lot of people in this area, low-income families and middle class families, lose food," Lowder said. "This is a way of giving back and helping those families."
The three entities are not done cooperating, Lowder said. There will be three more distributions next month.
The first will be from 9-10 a.m. Nov. 3 at Pine Grove AME Church, 5865 Kenwood Road in Manning.
The second will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Clarendon School District 1 Community Resource Center, 1154 Fourth St. in Summerton.
The final will be from 9-10 a.m. Nov. 29 at Howard Chapel AME Church, 6338 Old Manning Road in New Zion.
