Letter: It is not a choice to end a life in the womb

Posted
I sat down to watch the debate last Wednesday and I was gripped by an answer Hillary Clinton gave. I know she was “horrified” that Trump may not accept the election results and that is all the media will talk about. However, I was “horrified” by something greater as Mrs. Clinton talked about abortion and her stance that a baby in the womb has no rights. I beg to differ. That baby has a right to life! We all have that right and it should be protected. It is not a “choice” to end that life. It is murder! I don’t have to be aligned with a political party to know that. Did you notice the way she so casually talked about the right to partial birth abortion? That is when a baby is delivered alive (all but the head) then an instrument is put up into the skull at the base of the brain to end the baby’s life. Oh Lord! How far have we fallen? How far does this rabbit hole go? How did we get to this place where we sacrifice our babies on the altar of expedience and call it choice? How can people be outraged by the mundane and not even “bat an eye” at this evil? My heart breaks. My soul hurts. My mind races and I am “horrified” at how we have arrived here. Are we so callous as a nation that wiki leaks takes precedence over life? I am afraid if we so blatantly go down this road as a nation we will be a nation gone under and incapable of grasping right from wrong. There is no doubt that we have forsaken the principles that have founded our nation and the Church is Asleep in the light. We are afraid of what people will say if we speak our beliefs. We are afraid we will loose our job or social standing. We care more about our comfort than Christ. Please Church “wake up!” We are in the middle of the biggest cultural shift of our time. One cannot go to an Ivy league school and proclaim Jesus as Lord without being labeled, “intolerant”,” Xenophobic”, or plain “crazy.” Those very institutions were founded on Christian worldviews. I would submit that those institutions that claim to be bastions of tolerance are the very definition of intolerance. They have forsaken their founding values and drifted from the foundations that made them what they are today. This election is not about Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. I cannot tell you who to vote for, both of these candidates are flawed (which of us are not), but it is about a direction that our country will go. It is about a worldview that is secular vs. one that is intolerant of Christian Liberty. We have seen that through the release of emails attacking Catholics and Evangelicals where we are accused of the “bastardization” of society. We are at a time of choosing. I personally believe this is where God has brought us. What will you do? What will your part be? We will be held accountable. Moreover, we will have to live in a nation shaped by Post Christian (even Anti-Christian) values. By the way, you cannot sit this one out because you do not like the personality of the candidates. We are told in Scripture, “For him who knows to do good and does not do it, it is sin.” We are also told by Jesus to “occupy until He comes” so we must take our role as “salt and light” in our culture seriously. You may disagree with me on my views but as a pastor, no, as a Christian I must speak these things. I will be held accountable and you will too for your choices. Choose wisely.
