Town of Turbeville could be up and running today

There may be some good news for Duke Energy customers living in Turbeville. Much of the eastern Clarendon County region has been sitting in the dark since Saturday, but Duke spokesman Theo Lane said he called Turbeville City Administrator Rodney Johnson early today and made a promise. "I told him that I'm going to have the Town of Turbeville hot today," Lane said. "This will be along with some surrounding communities." Lane said that work in the eastern portion of Clarendon County has lagged behind other communities due to not being able to get to the substations that are out. "I had a conference call this morning to specifically discuss Turbeville," Lane said. "We have dedicated 100 resources to the Turbeville circuit, including linemen, equipment and other items. There's going to be a lot of work on the ground." Currently, Duke has about 1,600 in the region without power, and 2,527 customers in Clarendon County overall without it. Santee Electric still has about 5,067 without power. No definitive number is available for Black River, but the company still has about 4,000 in the dark in its four-county coverage area. "When you don't see crews on your road, please know they are still working," said Santee Electric spokesoman Adrel Langley. "Please allow them to continue by not stoping them to ask questions. They cannot tell members when their power will be restored. Also, please do not drive near a work zone." "Experience tells us that accident risks multiply as the restoration effort continues," she continued. "Linemen feel pressure to get power restored. It’s imperative our crews return home to their families once the lights are back on."
