Haley: Cyber threat during Matthew response

Gov. Nikki Haley warned during her morning press conference on Hurricane Matthew that unknown persons are sending emails and hacking computers based on providing information of power outages. "Something interesting happened overnight in that people have begun to receive emails," Haley said. "These emails claim to have updates on outages, and if you want to know the update, you click the link. Once you click there, they get into your computer. Do not click these. If you get emails such as this, delete them." Haley asked residents to have patients as the storm subsides later Saturday. "Most fatalities and injuries occur after the storm," she said. "Stay home if you don't absolutely have to leave. I'm asking that you have patience. I know you want to see your home. I know you want to get back. But in some cases, law enforcement aren't going to let you get back because the roads are closed." The National Weather Service has reported at least five to 11 inches of rain throughout the eastern midlands. Wind gusts have gotten to 55 mph in Clarendon and Orangeburg.
