Tindal: No school for District 2 starting Wednesday

Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent John Tindal said that the five District 2 schools will be out starting Wednesday per order of Gov. Nikki Haley. "Whatever the governor says, we're not going to go against it," Tindal said. "We were making preparations for the high school to be a shelter later in the week. But we will do this earlier, since the governor has declared that." Parents had called The Manning Times to say they received text messages stating that school was still happening on Thursday. "They didn't get texts from Clarendon 2," Tindal said, adamantly. "We haven't sent anything out." A local teacher from Clarendon School District 2 sent a screenshot of a message sent from one of the district's individual schools stating that school would remain open until they heard otherwise from Tindal. Tindal said such messages, however, were not sanctioned by the district office itself. Haley canceled public schools in 22 counties, including Clarendon, in preparation for Hurricane Matthew, which is expected to hit the coastline as early as Friday morning.
