Manning Police Chief Blair Shaffer is warning residents that traffic in downtown Manning could reach excessive limits starting Wednesday afternoon as the Lowcountry counties begin evacuation procedures per Gov. Nikki Haley's order made Tuesday.
"We will have a lot of traffic flowing through our city tomorrow, with S.C. 261 and Boyce Street being an official evacuation route," said Shaffer.
Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said trying to cross from one side of the city to the other will be hampered.
"The only two streets that will allow you to pass through are Brooks and Church," she said. "An officer will direct traffic on these streets. Chief Shaffer is asking that if you don't have to travel, please don't."
Shaffer said that if residents decide to travel, they must have a lot of patience.
"The priority with the governor's order is to evacuate those living within 100 miles of the coast," Nelson said.
Clarendon County Administrator David Epperson said Tuesday that Clarendon County is within 80 and 100 miles from the coast, depending on your location.
Nelson said lane reversals will affect Interstate 26 and U.S. 378. No word has been given on reversals for Interstate 95 at this time.
