McLeod Health Clarendon welcomes new urologist

McLeod Health Clarendon is getting a new, board-certified urologist on staff at the hospital. Dr. Christopher S. Fukuda will join the hospital from his practice at McLeod Urology Associates, where he serves with Drs. David Horger, Robert Santa-Cruz, Wallace Vaught and Charles Yowell. In addition to seeing patients in Florence, Fukuda will provide care in Manning, South Carolina at 1013 Professional Court, adjacent to Santee Cooper Urgent Care. Fukuda served on faculty and medical staff of the University of Vermont Medical Center and UVM College of Medicine as an attending surgeon and Clinical Assistant professor in the Division of Urology. For 20 years, Fukuda was the primary urologic consultant for the Vermont State Clinic for Children with Special Health Care Needs, instilling a commitment and passion for children and their care. Common conditions treated include voiding disorders (bed wetting), urinary tract infections that require surgery, surgical reconstruction of the urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, and bladder), surgery for groin conditions in childhood and adolescence (undescended testes, hydrocele/hernia, varicocele), and evaluation and management of urinary tract problems associated with neurological conditions such as spina bifida. A native of Vermont, Fukuda is an eighth generation physician with a family lineage of healing and medicine from his ancestors in Japan. A passionate outdoorsman and fly-fisherman, Fukuda and his wife, Mary Katherine (Katie), have three children. Fukuda welcomes new patients of all ages by physician referral.
