The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating what caused a single-vehicle wreck that took the life of an 80-year-old Manning man Thursday night on Telegraph Road.
Clarendon County Dep. Coroner Bucky Mock said that John E. Morrison of Manning was declared dead at the scene.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said that Morrison was driving a 2014 Chrysler mini-van westbound on Telegraph Road, when he left the roadway and struck a tree on the left side of the road.
"The driver was entrapped in the vehicle and died from fatal injuries," Southern said.
Morrison was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
"We are not sure what caused (Morrison) to leave the road," Southern said. "This crash is still under investigation."
