Fatal wreck blocking Bill Davis, M.G. Hemingway roads

A fatal wreck at Bill Davis and M.G. Hemingway roads in the Summerton area currently has traffic blocked. According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the wreck happened about 11:49 a.m. Monday. No other information is available at this time. Manninglive.com will have an update when more information is available.


MHS Class of 1986 to hold tailgating party for homecoming

The Manning High School class of 1986 will host a tailgating party for class members and immediate family as part of the football homecoming game at 6 p.m. Friday at Manning High School, specifically near the high school’s adjoining practice field. There will also be a planning meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Shoney’s in Manning to work on the actual reunion events for later in the year. Class members are invited and encouraged to come to both events.

5K without power in Summerton, Jordan, Manning

More than 5,000 Santee Electric customers are currently without power in the Summerton, Jordan and Manning areas, according to the company’s outage map. According to the map, four total outages has rendered about 5,820 Clarendon residents without power. Two homes in Florence and three homes in Williamsburg County are without power, although it is unknown if that is related to Clarendon’s outage. The Santee Electric Cooperative Inc. Facebook page says a wreck caused the current outages, after a vehicle broke a transmission pole that supplies the company’s substations with electricity.

SUMMERTON – Traci Elizabeth Ham Coffey, 45, wife of Judd Bryan Coffey, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at McLeod Health Clarendon.
Born Nov. 14, 1970, in Manning, she was the daughter of James Olin “Jimmy” Ham and Iva Jane McElveen Ham. She earned an associate degree from the University of South Carolina. Traci was a licensed cosmetologist, and for the past 18 years worked as a license examiner with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Lin Ham wrote this Facebook post about his sister, Traci Ham Coffey, on Sunday. Coffey died early Sunday morning after a battle with cancer. The community is rallying around the family by doing acts of kindness for others in order to “pay it forward” and “spread Traci’s smile.”

New Zion man gets two life sentences for murders of cousin, recycling center employee

A 34-year-old New Zion man charged in summer 2013 in two counties for the deaths of three women will spend the rest of his life in prison, according to court records.
The Clarendon County Public Court Index shows that Jeffery Eady, formerly of 1054 527 Subdivision Road in New Zion, pleaded guilty last week to two counts of murder and one count each of armed robbery; grand larceny of a value of $10,000 or more; possession of a weapon during a violent crime; and financial transaction card fraud of a value of $500 or less in six months.

Man threatens to kill wife over the phone

A 38-year-old woman told the Manning Police Department about 8:40 p.m. Sept. 5 that her 38-year-old husband continually calls her phone and threatens to kill her. The victim said that she and her husband are separated, and that the most recent call happened while she was at a store on Paxville Highway shortly before she notified police. Police reported that the suspect had called the woman eight times from two different phone numbers within a short period of time.

Automatic braking and other crazy things

The first vehicle I owned was a Chevrolet pickup. It had a three-speed manual transmission. You know, three on the tree. It was a nice vehicle. I had it for a few years and the brakes started giving me trouble. Back then I was a lot smarter than I am now.
