First Down postponed until Monday

First Down, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today will be postponed until the same time Monday at Manning IGA, due to three schools having homecoming games tonight. Those schools are Manning High, Scott’s Branch and Clarendon Hall. 


F.E. DuBose campus to hold Open House Oct. 1

The East Clarendon High School Lady Wolverines volleyball team hosted Hannah-Pamplico High School Thursday in their “Volley for the Cure” match, which marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the school. This year, the team recognizewd two wonderful ladies, Monika Whack and Brandi Feagin, both of whom were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Both underwent treatment and are currently in remission. They give all glory to God and thanked their families and friends for the support they have been given.
In the games, East Clarendon defeated Hannah Pamplico with scores of 25-5, 25-8 and 25-9.

Local woman wants to #PaintClarendonGold

It started last year with a simple request.
Caroline Buyck asked a few residents last year to place a few gold ribbons on their mailboxes in recognition of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month, which is recognized each September.
Before long, businesses began joining in the initiative, which continued in 2016 in an almost exponential fashion, Buyck said.
The effort began Sept. 1 in the Bank of Clarendon parking lot, as Buyck and her daughter, Mary Catherine, joined family and friends in seeking donations while provided pre-made gold bows to residents and business owners.

Lady Swampcats fall to OP in tennis

The Laurence Manning Academy Lady Swampcats fell 9-0 on the tennis court Thursday to Orangeburg Prep in Orangeburg.
Players included Amanda Newman, Mason Ham, Eliza Davis, Hannah Graham, Caroline Robinson and Macey Wilson. Doubles teams included Ham and Davis, Newman and Graham, and Wilson and Laura Helen Johnson.

Resident receives USC Upstate scholarship

SPARTANBURG – Latisha Degraffenreid has been awarded the Helen P. Biehl Endowmen Scholarship from the University of South Carolina Upstate Foundation.
Degraffenreid is majoring in Nursing.
“These privatly funded scholarships are created and supported by alumni, current faculty and staff, retirees, friends and corporate partners of USC Upstate,” said USC Upstate Director of Development and Foundation Scholarships Bea Walters Smith. “Each scholarship has specific criteria and awards up to $2,500 per year.”
