K5 goes around the world in 60 days

Nancy Wilson's class at Clarendon Hall is doing a thematic unit about the countries of the world. Each week, for 12 weeks, the children will locate a country on the map, color the flag, learn about the language and learn to count from one to 10 in the language. They will also study about the different types of foods, animals, and tourist sites associated with each country and make cultural crafts. While studying Brazil, they had a family from Brazil come for a visit. Jessica Fogaca Carvalho and her children brought with them a tropical bird, Brazil's flag and native snack foods for all to enjoy. Jessica also taught the class a nursery rhyme similar to London Bridge. Wilson hopes that this experience will encourage her students to be willing to try new things.
