The Turbeville Correctional Institute was put on lockdown for about four hours Monday after an inmate led a small uprising in a housing unit there. State Department of Corrections spokesman Dexter Lee said that one correctional officer was injured in the melee, but that he was treated at McLeod Health Clarendon and released to go home. According to reports, the guard was stabbed, but injuries were not life-threatening. Lee said the incident started about 2 p.m., and that officers had the housing unit under control by 6 p.m. "This is still under investigation, and there could be charges from this incident," Lee said.
