Man charged with various traffic offenses after traffic stop

A 28-year-old Manning man was given courtesy summonses 10:20 p.m. Aug. 27 for possession of marijuana, open container and no South Carolina driver's license after a traffic stop in the area of Manning Early Childhood Center on Raccoon Road in Manning. According to reports, the man was stopped with speeding, allegedly traveling 69 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to reports from the Manning Police Department. Police reported being able to smell "a strong odor of marijuana coming from (his vehicle)," and he allegedly admitted to police that he did not have a valid South Carolina driver's license. Police retrieved a clear, plastic bag of a green, leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, after the suspect admitted to having it. Police also found in the passenger floorboard a cold, open can of Bud Light. All charges were misdemeanors, and the suspect was not taken to the Clarendon County Detention Center. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
