Elizabeth Gail Setzler Rawlins

Elizabeth Gail Setzler Rawlins, widow of Richard Rawlins, died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at McLeod Hospital in Florence.

Born July 23, 1942, in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of the late Roy Hatten Setzler and the late Mable Sanders Setzler. She was a member of Santee Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Baker Herlong and John T. Herlong; a daughter, Pamela Timmons, all of Manning; three stepchildren, Richard Rawlins, Jr., Danielle Rawlins and Jennifer Rawlins; six grandchildren, Travis Herlong, Todd Herlong, Jr., Joshua Timmons, Brandon Herlong, Lacy Timmons and Christian Herlong; ten great grandchildren; and two brothers, … Read the rest

Country Fresh recalls certain vegetable products

Fresh-cut vegetables are being recalled from grocery, discount and convenience stores across the Southeast because the food may be contaminated with potentially fatal Listeria bacteria.
Conroe, Texas-based Country Fresh Inc. said Friday that the recall involves its vegetable products shipped to retailers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The vegetables carried the Country Fresh and store labels at Bi-Lo, Fresh Point, Harris Teeter, Publix, QuikTrip, Spinx, Wal-Mart and Winn-Dixie stores. The recalled items had “best if used by” dates of Aug. 7 through 19.

Saints defeat Beaufort Academy

The Clarendon Hall Saints opened their season on Friday night with a 38-36 win over Beaufort Academy.

The Saints opened the scoring with a 6 play 61 yard drive ending in a 18 yard run by Wells Robinson as Beaufort answered right back with a 57 yard TD pass. The Saints came back quickly with a 4 play 51 yard drive and a touchdown by Bobby Ashba to regain the lead at 16-8 after the first period. CCFD to ‘Fill the Boot’ for Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Clarendon County Fire Department will be holding a boot drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 2 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters will fill boots at four separate locations throughout the county with your donations. They will be at the intersections of Boundary and Boyce streets and Sunset and Mill streets in Manning; Church and Main streets in Summerton; and Clarence Coker Highway and Main Street in Turbeville.

EMS currently responding to Scott’s Branch High School

Dispatchers are reporting that Clarendon EMS is responding to the football stadium at Scott’s Branch High School. The players of the Manning High School Monarchs and Scott’s Branch Eagles are fine. Reports indicate that a fan on the home team – Eagles – has passed out and is having seizures. There is no report on delays for the game as of yet.

The Swampcats stomped Florence Christian away from home on Friday night, winning 54-0 to bring their season to 2-0. The team plays again 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2 against the Skyhawks at home.
