Clarendon Dems to meet Thursday

Sadie is a 10-week-old black-and-white female shapherd-lab mix puppy. She has had her age appropriate shots and been spayed. Sadie is a sweet loving girl who loves to cuddle. Stop by A Second Chance Animal Shelter of Clarendon County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday to see Sadie and and her siblings. Their adoption fee is $125 each.


DNR plans field day to celebrate 75 years of wildlife management

As part of a year-long celebration of 75 years of wildlife management areas throughout the state, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will host Sept. 10 a field day at Wateree River Heritage Preserve Wildlife Management Area near Eastover in Richland County.
The field day at the WRHP will offer a number of special programs and activities led by SCDNR’s wildlife section staff and other outdoor professionals. CCFD to ‘Fill the Boot’ for Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Clarendon County Fire Department will be holding a boot drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 2 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters will fill boots at four separate locations throughout the county with your donations. They will be at the intersections of Boundary and Boyce streets and Sunset and Mill streets in Manning; Church and Main streets in Summerton; and Clarence Coker Highway and Main Street in Turbeville.

Clarendon residents helping Louisiana flood victims, ask for donations

Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office Administrative Assistant Georgette Murray remembers very well all the support that came in last year when South Carolina was devastated by more than 20 inches of rain in the span of one day.
Now, she and several others are joining together to “pay it forward” to the victims of flooding in Louisiana.
“All I can say is, ‘We are our brother’s keeper,'” said Murray. “We’ve had people help us over the years; now it’s our turn to return the favor.”

Debris in roadway on I-95

The S.C. HIghway Patrol is reporting debris in the roadway at the 131 southbound mile-marker on Interstate 95. Traffic may be slower during this time. Reports do not indicate what type of debris is in the roadway.


Wreck at U.S. 521, Brogdon Road

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck at U.S. 521 and Brogdon Road near the Clarendon-Sumter line. Traffic may be slower during this time. No injuries are reported.


Manning woman receives phony phone call

A Manning woman received a phone call last week, notifying her that she was going to be arrested by the IRS, unless she paid her past due taxes.
Mary Clark noticed a message on her phone from a number with an out-of-state area code. When she called the number back, a man with a heavy Indian-sounding accent answered the phone. Clark decided to play along with the man to satisfy her suspicions.
