Keeping things moving in SC

Posted
As renowned jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald once said, "It isn't where you came from, it's where you're going that counts." South Carolina has become internationally-known not only for making things and making them well, but also for our skill in getting those things where they need to go. Employing more than 54,000 South Carolinians, the transportation, distribution and logistics (TDL) sector definitely keeps our economy moving. Since 2011, 40 TDL-related firms have announced capital investments of nearly $770 million. And, with the recent opening of the Panama Canal expansion, it appears that this dynamic industry will only keep growing within our borders. To accommodate this growth, Team South Carolina has been taking steps to ensure that our TDL capabilities continue to strengthen. An example of this is the ongoing project to deepen the Charleston Harbor to 52-feet, making it the deepest shipping channel in the Southeast. Adding to that, just this week, the S.C. Ports Authority obtained a pair of giant ship-to-shore cranes capable of moving cargo more efficiently, and more supersized cranes are on the way. South Carolina is blessed with a favorable geographic location and an exceptional infrastructure network that allow us to offer unparalleled accessibility for companies large and small. Thanks to the well-oiled machine that is South Carolina's TDL sector, products made here continue to make their way to domestic and international markets faster than ever, letting the world know that the Palmetto State truly is 'Just right' for business.
