Tax Free Weekend starts today

South Carolina’s third-busiest shopping weekend begins today, with shoppers for select items – including school supplies – being spared the typical 6 percent statewide sales tax. Clothing, computers and typical school supplies are all exempt from the statewide sales tax. The state Department of revenue has a list of items on its website that qualify, along with a list of items not considered tax-free. Officials estimate South Carolinians will save as much as $3 million throughout the weekend. Tax-free weekend began Friday at midnight and will go through midnight Sunday.
