GREELEYVILLE - The Rev. C. Burton Haselden, 77, left this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at Tidelands Hospice in Georgetown.

Born Nov. 14, 1938, in Hemingway, he was a son of the late Clarence L. and Jewel Arnette Haselden. He currently lived in Greeleyville, where he was the music minister and associate pastor of Greeleyville Baptist Church until his retirement. His No. 1 passion his entire life was serving the Lord in every capacity.

He started singing gospel music on the radio at the age of 12 and was called to preach at age 17. He was the minister and music director of several different churches throughout South Carolina and also at Ocean Lakes Campground in Surfside Beach.

He headed a singing group called The Living Witness Singers, as well as touring solo. He had a youth ministry through the Burton Haselden Evangelistic Association, where he ministered to the youth through a bus ministry, which was an outward bound ministry where he used God’s great outdoors, that he loved so much, to witness to kids and adults, and several other ministries with youth as his focus.

His prayer everyday was for people to be able to see God’s light shining through him so that he could help lead them to Christ. He will be sorely missed by his family, and the countless number of people he has touched on the earth, but his ministry will live on forever through all of them.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Morris Haselden; sons Mark (Kitty) Haselden and Barry Haselden; granddaughter Kellsie (Jason) Hazinski; step-sons Charles (Wendy) Funderburk and Robert Funderburk; three step-grandchildren; and sister Cynthia (Jimmy) Prosser.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Hemingway First Baptist Church.

Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Hemingway First Baptist Church, 200 E. George St. in Hemingway.
