Carrie Sinkler-Parker spent each Thursday in July with children at the Harvin Clarendon County Library for a reading program co-sponsored by that entity with the National Council of Negro Women. This year’s program has focused on the centennial celebratoin of the National Parks Service. On the last Thursday of the month, the children completed the program “Rappin’ with a Ranger,” one of the activities students participated in as part of the celebration. Park Ranger Gregory Cunningham with Congaree National Park in Hopkins was in attendance to present participating children with badges and certificates designating them as Centennial Junior Rangers. Sinkler-Parker said the visit “was special, as park rangers usually do not travel long distances to participate in programs.”
