Hanging line causes US 521 closure

U.S. 521 is now reopened in the Alcolu area after a downed cable was repaired. Clarendon Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said that a Time Warner or Farmers Telephone cable was hanging low across a part of the road on Wednesday morning, keeping cars from passing through. "It was just hanging really low, and cars couldn't get under it apparently," she said. A local truck driver told manninglive.com that he barely made it under the line about 10 a.m. "People were turning around in the road, and so we went out there to help with that," Richbourg said. Traffic was rerouted down both Alcolu and Main streets. "We didn't have any fire or accidents from the incident," Richbourg said.
