Heat Advisory, Hazardous Weather Outlook issued for Clarendon County

It’s going to be another hot day in Clarendon County, with the possibility of severe afternoon thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service out of Columbia.
NWS is forecasting afternoon temperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s, with heat indices between 104 and 108 degrees later in the afternoon.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will also be possible during the afternoon hours across the area Strong, gusty winds and small hail will be the biggest threats with the stronger storms.

Vidro is a 1.5-year-old black German shepherd mix that weighs about 63 pounds. He is current on his shots, has been neutered and has tested negative for heartworms. He listens well as long as you are stern with him. He’s a very loving dog looking for attention. His adoption fee is $125 at A Second Chance Animal Shelter. SCRANTON – Stephanie Coward Goins, 44, wife of Bobby Goins of Coward, died May 22, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile wreck.
Services were held Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Unity Christian Church, with burial at Lee Cemetery in Scranton.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of Gerald Larue Coward and Iris Lee Kirby. Stephanie was employed by Lake City Community Hospital as a patient accountant representative, and was a member of Liberty Freedom and Worship Church.

Johnson makes Presbyterian College Provost’s List

Reward offered for information on park trashers

Concerned Manning residents are offering a $200 reward for information about the identities of the folks responsible for allegedly trashing Gibbons Street Park on Monday afternoon.
Elizabeth Briley, a member of a devotional group that meets at the park on Tuesday mornings, said on Facebook that the park was strewn with trash and what appeared to be used fireworks.
“We arrived here this morning and could not believe our eyes,” Briley said. “It is absolutely ridiculous that someone enjoyed this beautiful area and then chose to leave it in such a rude, disgusting manner.”

11 percent of U.S. adults have been scammed by phone

Almost nine out of 10 Americans receive unwanted phone calls each month, according to a recent survey which also reveals the Top 5 scams people fall victim to each year.
The YouGov survey, commissioned by call blocking specialists, CPR Call Blocker, showed that 11 percent of U.S. adults have been a victim of a telphone scam. Of those who have been scammed, 20 percent said they had lost between $500 and $10,000 as a result.
The survey revealed that from a list, victims have been scammed most by:
IRS scams (33 percent)
Credit/Loan scams (31 percent)
Lottery/Sweepstake scams (27 percent)… Read the rest


Sheriff’s Office seeks suspects who attacked Summerton Samaritan

The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two men who allegedly attacked a Summerton man after he stopped to help them at a boat landing.
Joseph Lemon said in an incident report that the suspects blinked their lights at him near John C. Land III Landing in Summerton, and that he stopped to see what they wanted. He said the men then jumped out with objects that “looked like a bat” in their hands. Reports indicate that one of the suspects approached Lemon, yelling, “What’s up?”

Willie Thames, devoted husband of Naomi Lemon Thames, died Sunday, July 2, 2016, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Aug. 11, 1940, in the Ram Bay community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Daniel King and Ruth Pearson Thames.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 1874 Ram Bay Road in Manning.
Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home and Chapel of Manning.


200 still without power

Duke Energy is reporting that 200 homes in Clarendon County are still without power Tuesday night after severe thunderstorms came through the area late Tuesday afternoon.
About 30 homes near Sardinia and Gable and 167 homes in Summerton and Silver are without power. Previously, about 800 homes were without power. Duke has given no estimated time of restoration on its outage map.
