The Sumter Police Department are seeking five suspects - one from Manning - after warrants were issued in an alleged mob assault on a man there earlier this month.

Kenman Alonza Georgia, 24, whose last known address is 1068 Fireglow St. in Manning, is wanted along with Sumter residents Dontrell Devontae Dean, 22, last known address of 927 Mathis St., Apt. 8; Tavoris Lamont Gaillard, 22, last known address of 1054 Porter St.; Bernard Colin Peoples, 22, last known address of 945 Gaines Road; and Arkeylin Keytron Scott, 23, last known address of 23 W. Patricia Drive.

All suspects face one charge of third-degree assault and battery by a mob.

Sumter Police Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt said the men are also wanted for questioning in the shooting death of 28-year-old Ante Witherspoon, who was shot to death July 15 near his family's home on Dibert Street. Suspect Bernie Peoples, 28, turned himself into police the next day and remains at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center on a murder charge.

In the mob attack, warrants allege that the five suspects, along with a sixth that authorities are still attempting to identify, assaulted a man on July 13 on Marilyn Avenue. Reports indicate the victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was punched about the face and body by a group of men alleged to be comprised of the named suspects.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts or the attack and fatal shooting cases are asked to call the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700. Information can also be given anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at (803) 436-2718 or 1-888-CRIME-SC. A reward could be available for information leading to arrest.
