SUMMERTON - James "Big D" McDonald, 70, husband of Rosa Lawson McDonald, died on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1946, in the Summerton section of Clarendon County, a son of the late Willie "Bo" McDonald and Lillie Mae Oliver McDonald. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed with Billy Row Industries and was also a construction worker and a production operator. He was a member of Briggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton.

Survivors are his wife, Rosa L. McDonald of the home; a daughter, Jennifer McDonald of the home; a son, Eric (Rosa) McDonald; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Montgomery of Summerton and Betty (Tom) McGregor of Manning; six brothers, Leroy (Judy Ann) McDonald of Miami, Florida, Charlie (Mary Alice) McDonald of Manning, Sammie Lee (Ada) McDonald of Beaufort, Pastor Bobby (Caroline) McDonald of Manning, Levi McDonald of Brooklyn, New York, and Sylvester McDonald of Summerton; 13 aunts; three uncles; and four additional sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.

Celebratory services for Mr. McDonald will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Hayes F. & LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, with the Rev. Bobby McDonald, eulogist, the Rev. Johnnie Lawson presiding and the Rev. O'Donald Dinge, Elder Sampson Pearson and Evangelist Susan Blanding assisting. Burial will follow in the Briggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, Summerton.
