Clarendon County Allstar team Coach Eugene “Bo” Olsen hopes that Clarendon County will be the team to beat at the Dixie League Championship game in July.

“Twelve boys were picked out of the Dixie Majors in Manning,” said Olsen. “Nine of (these) were returning Allstar players from last year, so we’re an experienced team.”

Olsen shared that his boys are are outstanding players with a “great team bond.” Last year, they were a “young” Allstar team, playing for the first time. But this year, they have more depth and skill. Most of theses boys have played together since they were 8 years old; however, all 12 can play any position.

“In state, hopefully we are the team to look out for," Olsen said.

The young Clarendon County Allstar team went to district which consists of four teams, including Lake Marion, Clarendon County, St. George and Turbeville. The team beat Lake Marion in the first round of the bracket, 6-3. The team defeated St. George in the second game, 15-4, and Turbeville, 10-5, in the third game, which kept them in the winners bracket.

They then won the District Championships game 10-5 against Turbeville.

“Our team goals are to go to State and win," Olsen said. "My boys all play as a team which means a lot. They are good Christian boys and that will get them a long way in the season.”

Olsen said the Clarendon County team has not gone to the state championships "for a number of years, so we are excited."

Finals start July 16, with 12 teams representing various communities from throughout the state.

"We have six games to play to get to the Championship," said Olsen, who is assisted by Traci Geddings and Jackie McIntosh. "We have outstanding coaches and parents, and have played a lot of scrimmage games and played well."
