Posted
The Junior Ambassadors came up with a series of questions for Miss Clarendon 2016 Drue Floyd and presented her answers to The Manning Times so that the public could get to know her better during her reign this year. Floyd, 19, an East Clarendon High School graduate, is currently in Columbia, competing this week in the Miss South Carolina pageant. Finals will be televised from 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday on WACH-Fox. WHAT IS YOUR HOMETOWN LIKE? It is small but comfortable. We all know one another and we all support each other. I could not pick a better hometown. WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A CHILD? I was a natural-born leader. I loved to be the one who took control over any kickball game or imaginary game we decided to play. WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE. My granddaddy, Murray. He was an inspiration to everyone. To know I had such an amazing grandfather who is built of courage, strength and respect means the world to me. I could never repay him for all he’s done for me. WHAT IS THE ONE THING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE YOU MEET MAY NOT IMMEDIATELY REALIZE? That I am a huge penny-pincher. I very rarely spend money on myself. I love going to thrift stores to find extremely good deals that you just cannot beat. It makes me feel accomplished. DESCRIBE ONE DEFINING MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE OTHER THAN WINNING YOUR LOCAL TITLE. The moment I first walked into Special Olympics with the Project Unify group was life-changing. It opened my eyes to what I could not see before. The acceptance and love for one another fills the hearts ov everyone there. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM BEING IN THE MISS SOUTH CAROLINA PROGRAM? I have learned the importance of giving back to our communities. It is so important that we all do our very best to be beautiful from the inside and to do all we can for others. IF YOU ARE CROWNED THE STATE WINNER, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH DURING YOUR YEAR OF SERVICE? I want to be able to spread knowledge about Project Unify. My platform is very important to be and being Miss South Carolina would be such an amazing opportunity to teach others about its importance.
