Hospital signs management agreement with McLeod Health; new CEO to start Wednesday

The Clarendon Health Systems board voted Tuesday night unanimously to accept a management agreement with McLeod Health System in Florence, part of which will see the current administration step back from the management of day-to-day activities at the hospital.

Samuels presented Key to the City

Hayes Samuels has been in the funeral business since 1964. He has been Clarendon County Coroner for 11 years.
The owner and operator of Samuels Funeral Home LLC was honored May 16 by Manning City Council and Mayor Julia Nelson, who presented the longtime funeral director with the Key to the City of Manning.

Dion scores hole-in-one

Roger E. Dion of Santee scored a hole-in-one May 8 on Hole No. 3 at Santee Cooper Resort Golf Course in Santee.

Resident seeking aid for Camp Happy Days

Local resident Bill Ellis is looking for donations of hats, T-shirts, toothpaste, sunscreen and other items for children for the upcoming Camp Happy Days, which will be held the first week of July at Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton. Manning man charged after allegedly stealing bicycle

A 26-year-old Manning man was arrested about 10:11 p.m. April 4 by the Manning Police Department after allegedly stealing a bicycle from a business in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway and police found six bags of alleged marijuana during a subsequent search.
Charles Erwin Epps, 26, of 619 Woodside Drive in Manning, was charged with shoplifting, second or subsequent offense, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, after an employee with the store alerted police that a suspect had left the store riding the bicycle he had allegedly stolen at 9:26 p.m. that day.

The chief prosecutor for the 3rd Judicial Circuit said it’s not a matter of wanting to appeal a judge’s decision earlier this month that a Florence man not be tried for his alleged role in the death of a 19-year-old Summerton woman in 2014.

Three charged after alleged hunt club assault

Three local men are being charged with second-degree assault after an incident at a local hunting lodge that involved the alleged beating of an 18-year-old Manning man.
The victim told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office about 3 p.m. May 10 that he was attacked by seven people in the late hours of May 7 after he was asked to leave a party at a hunting lodge on North Brewington Road in Manning. The victim said he got medical care at Urgent Care between the incident and the time of his report.

Late deputy’s family surprised with Dolphins memorabilia

A late Clarendon County Sheriff’s deputy’s family got quite the surprise earlier this month.
Tonia Mallett-Smith and two of her and the late Holmes Smith’s children entered the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office to find themselves inundated with memorabilia from the Miami Dolphins.
“That was Holmes’ favorite team,” Mallett-Smith said. “He was a diehard fan. He was a true Dolphin fanatic.”
Smith was killed in November 2014 in a vehicle wreck while on duty.
