Getting to Know Miss Clarendon Teen 2016 Sara Levitt

Sara Elizabeth Levitt was crowned in February as Miss Clarendon Teen 2016 and will represent Clarendon County in June in the Miss South Carolina Oustanding Teen Pageant. We will be publishing these little blurbs daily so we can get to know Levitt better. Levitt was elected at age 14 as a youth representative on her church’s council. “It was such an amazing experience to see what goes on behind the scenes at church,” she said. “I learned a lot about responsibility and punctuality through that opportunity.”

Robert Lee Pendergrass, 70, widower of Mattie Roundtree Pendergrass, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home. Born June 28, 1945, in Manning, he was a son of Enoch and Jetta Mae Gamble Pendergrass. The family is receiving friends at the home, 1118 Ocean Road in Alcolu. These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

Donate to local charities through midlands gives

Two local charities are participating Tuesday in the 3rd annual Midlands Gives event, during which folks may donate online for a 24-hour period, starting 12 a.m. Tuesday and ending at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. “In its third year, Midlands Gives, hosted by the Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ expert on philanthropy, serves as a hub for donors to give online to 383 local nonprofits in the 11 Midlands counties served by the foundation,” reads a release from Midlands Gives. “In 2015, Midlands Gives raised an astonishing $1,543,032.65 for 251 charities, up from $704,932.23 raised for 150 nonprofits in 2014, the… Read the rest

Wreck at 113NB on I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a vehicle wreck with unknown injuries at the 113 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. According to reports, a vehicle has run into a ditch. Entrapment is unknown.

Fruit Tree Garden to be displayed during Garden Tour

Nine gardens will be on display the second weekend in June as the Azalea Garden club of Manning hosts “The Art of Gardening,” the first tour the club has hosted in more than a decade. One garden which will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 is the Fruit Tree Garden of Billy and Betty Coffey, 1288 Hickory Ridge Circle in Manning. Billy and Betty Coffey’s home was constructed in 1975 at 1288 Hickory Ridge Circle, The subdivision consists of 14 large lots on a 75-acre tract. Saints make state playoffs with win against St. Johns Christian

Clarendon Hall defeated St. Johns Christian in varsity baseball 14-4 on Friday night in Moncks Corner. Starting pitcher Hilton Layton got the win for the Saints, giving up three runs, two earned on four walks and four hits with three strikeouts. Layton’s record goes to 3-1 on the season. Gavin Allan pitched in relief giving up one unearned run, scattering four hits and striking out five. Parents at Scott’s Branch Middle and High School have been showing their support in record numbers this school year. Increased parental support at the school is evident from the number of parents who have attended school conferences, visited the school and have gotten involved in the school’s PTO efforts.
