Highway Patrol still seeking leads on fatal hit and run

The S.C. Highway Patrol has set a sign on U.S. 301 in New Zion where the body of Carey Randolph McCracken was found shortly after 12 a.m. May 13.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is still seeking information on a hit and run more than two weeks after the incident left a 47-year-old Myrtle Beach man dead on a New Zion highway.
The body of Carey Randolph McCracken Jr., 47, was found shortly after 12 a.m. May 13 in the middle of U.S. 301 “right at Salem Road in New Zion,” said Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Charles Jackson.
“He had a flat tire on the passenger’s side of the vehicle,” Jackson said.
Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said the State Law Enforcement Division investigation team was called in due to the extent of McCracken’s injuries, which included blunt force trauma to his head, face and hands.
“We called in SLED because we couldn’t be sure it wasn’t something other than a hit and run, due to the injuries,” Garrett said. “The SLED investigator, who used to work with the Highway Patrol Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) said it was a hit and run.”
Garrett said an autopsy performed Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina also showed evidence of a hit and run.
“The pathologist said injuries were consistent with a hit and run, so now the Highway Patrol has the case,” Garrett said.
Garrett said, however, that anyone with information regarding this case can call the Sheriff’s Office at (803) 435-4414. You can also dial *HP from any mobile device.

Why was there nothing in the news about Mr. Mallette being hit by a sherrif deputy, ultimately leading to his death?

What are you talking about, why are you using a pseudonym and why are you throwing out a red herring. If you have anything of substance that needs to be investigated you should choose a forum different than this message board.

Please do not use this message board for anything other than for its intended use. Carey McCracken was my cousin and our family is going through enough without comments of this nature. If you have a problem with another case please contact the authorities.
Thank you for your respect for Carey’s parents, children and his brother as well as the entire family.
