Azalea Club to host Garden Tour

Nine gardens will be on display the second weekend in June as the Azalea Garden club of Manning hosts "The Art of Gardening," the first tour the club has hosted in more than a decade.

"I'd say it's been at least 15 years," said Marie Land, one of the organizers of the tour, which will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11. A rain date has been set from 1-5 p.m. June 12.

"The nine houses are spread throughout Manning and there is one in Summerton," Land said. "Participants don't have to start at any particular house, and they can go in any order.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the tour. Boxed lunches are $10 each and must be ordered by June 4, Land said.

Gardens that will be displayed include:

Ralph and Ellen Rossoni - Japanese maples

Ron and Sherrie Wall - Water features

Caroline and Johnnie Herring - Cottage garden

Tom and Ginny Honea - Container Garden

Morgan and Anne Sauls - 1840s garden

Sammy and Ann Plowden - Rose and water garden

Ed and Nannette Frye - Vintage garden

Dr. Butch and Sandra Coker - Southern garden

Billy and Betty Coffey - Vegetable garden

Manninglive.com will be featuring each of these gardens separately in the next week.
