Tonia Mallett-Smith, widow of Clarendon County Inv. Holmes Smith, is currently in Washington, D.C., for National Police Week, a time when law enforcement agencies from throughout the country come to honor their fallen brothers. Mallett-Smith's husband died Nov. 5, 2014, in the line of duty after a vehicle wreck while driving back from Sumter County. In this video, she explains how he was nominated for inclusion in the Memorial Wall in D.C., where his name was placed at last year's police week.

The Palmetto Patriots, a group of law enforcement officers from the Clarendon, Sumter and Florence sheriff's offices, the Manning Police Department at the state Department of Natural Resources, are also in D.C.
