Lady Wolverines take softball Lower State title

The East Clarendon High School Lady Wolverines defeated defending Lower State champion Latta in two games on Friday night to come away with the Lower State title.

Scott Chancey of The Florence Morning News reported that Gracen Watts hit a three-run homer in the first game and a two-run blast in the second to help the Lady Wolverines sweep the doubleheader and win the Class A Lower State Championship.

Coach Lisa Ard’s Wolverines won Friday’s first game 5-0 and the second by the score of 5-1. East Clarendon will play in Monday’s 6 p.m. first-round game of the state championship series at Dixie. Game 2 is Wednesday at East Clarendon and Game 3, if necessary, will be at a neutral site. East Clarendon beat Dixie for the 2013 state championship, and the Hornets avenged that loss to the Wolverines with the state title in 2014.
