Laurence Manning Academy and Sumter P-15's pitcher Taylor Finley signed Thursday to play baseball for the University of South Carolina Fire Ants starting in the 2016-17 school year.

He met USC Sumter head coach Tim Medlin while playing at Riley Park in Sumter with the P-15's in previous years. He said Medlin's coaching style helped him make the decision to go with the Fire Ants. He said he had offers from Florence-Darlington Tech and Presbyterian College.

LMA head coach Barry Hatfield said Taylor has been a two time All-Conferene and North-South All Star player for the Swampcats. He was a three-year varsity letter winner. In the 2016 season, he has a 1-1 record, with nine saves. He has 16 career saves, witha 5-2 overall record. He was named the Most Valuable Pitcher in 2015. He has been an honor roll and Headmaster's List standout in the classroom.

"He doesn't shy away from pressure," Hatfield said. "There has to be a confidence that you can get people out, and he has that."
