The Manning High School varsity golf team placed third on Wednesday in the Region 6 AAA Tournament, which was hosted by the Monarchs at Wyboo Golf Club. The team scored 338 to come in third out of four teams. Hartsville finished first, with 291 points; Darlington, second with 312 points; and Marlboro, fourth with 494 points.

Four monarchs made up the team score, including Jacob Richburg (73); Hunter White (79); Anders Land (90); and Robert Dykes (96).

Coach Michael Baldwin said the tournament was originally planned for Hartsville, but was moved to Manning about two weeks ago.

"This was a real community effort to get this tournament off the ground in such a short time," he said. "I want to thank all my players and the players' parents for helping out. I also want to thank Victor Grubbs, the golf professional at Wyboo Golf Club, for letting us play on a beautiful course."

He said that the Manning Police Department "graciously cooked hot dogs and hamburgers for the players Wednesday evening after the tournament."

Manning IGA and Piggly Wiggly provided snacks and drinks for the team.

"Our next stop is Hilton Head over the weekend, and we play in the Lower State Championship on Monday," Baldwin said.

He said Jacob Richburg was named All-Region Finalist for Manning High School, having posted one of the Top 5 scores of the season.
