Saints make state playoffs with win against St. Johns Christian

Clarendon Hall defeated St. Johns Christian in varsity baseball 14-4 on Friday night in Moncks Corner. Starting pitcher Hilton Layton got the win for the Saints, giving up three runs, two earned on four walks and four hits with three strikeouts. Layton’s record goes to 3-1 on the season. Gavin Allan pitched in relief giving up one unearned run, scattering four hits and striking out five. On offense, the Saints were led by Matthew Corbett, who went 3-4 with four runs and three RBI and Lance Browder, who went 4-4 with two runs and an RBI. Hilton Layton went 2-3 with a double and two RBI, and William Corbett added two hits with a rbi and a run scored. The Saints clinched a spot in the SCISA 1A State Playoffs by winning three out of their past four games. Clarendon Hall will play Northside Christian in the first round of the playoffs in a best two-out-of-three series. A double header will be played Monday at Heathwood Hall, with the first game beginning at 4 p.m. and with game three (if needed) scheduled at the Saints' home field for Tuesday in Summerton.
