The Scott’s Branch High School track teams both took second Saturday in the Eagle Invitational Track Meet hosted by the school in Summerton. Edisto High School took first place for the boys, with 192.50 points, followed by Scott’s Branch in second with 152 points. For the girls, Colleton County took first place with 198 points, while Scott’s Branch had 126 points for second place. Nevaeh Iletha-Mae Pearson was crowned Wee Miss Striped Bass Festival 2016 on Saturday night at Weldon Auditorium in Manning. Anna Katherine Finley was the 1st runner up.

The Manning Lions Club will hold its annual Fish Fry from 4:30-7:30 p.m. April 21-22 in conjunction with the Striped Bass Festival at the Manning Restaurant. This is the Lions Club’s major fundraiser, and proceeds provide vision services to those in need in Manning and Clarendon County as a whole. The goal this year is to provide vision servies to 55 individuals. The group will also provide free vision screening from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 during the Striped Bass Festival in the Clarendon County Courthouse parking lot.

Macy Bellamy was crowned Petite Miss Puddin’ Swamp 2016 on Saturday night at East Clarendon High School. Ella Kate McKenzie was 1st runne rup, while Allie Keith Coker was 2nd runner up. Macy was given the awards for Best Hair and Best Dressed, while Allie was given the awards for Most Photogenic and Most Beautiful.

Lanesha S. Sheard has been named the Manning Junior High School Teacher of the Year.
Sheard has five years of teaching experience, all of them with Clarendon School District 2, and she currently teaches seventh and eighth grades at the junior high school.
“The most rewarding part of my career in education is being able to make a difference in the lives of adolescents and building positive relationships with them,” she said. “At such a critical time in their lives, learning about my students and what they feel is important allows me to become a better teacher for them.”

A 40-year-old Manning man was charged with disorderly conduct April 1 after allegedly yelling at and threatening an officer with the Manning Police Department.
According to reports, the man was walking in and out of traffic about 6:20 p.m. in the area of North Brooks Street when he was spotted by a Clarendon County sheriff’s deputy who reported the man to police. Asked how much he’d had to drink, the man answered, “Plenty.” The man allegedly continued to yell at one police officer present and refused to talk. Ashley Rae Hodge was crowned Little Miss Striped Bass Festival 2016 on Saturday night at Weldon Auditorium. Tiylasia Aniya Samuel was the 1st runner up, while Mary-Esther Ward McCabe was the 2nd runner up.

Jerry Coker propelled Manning High to soaring heights during his time as an athlete in high school. He went on to travel the roads as a minor league baseball player, and is now a Clarendon County Athletic Hall of Famer.
“I loved every minute of it,” he said. “I gained a lot more from the people around me than they could’ve ever gotten from me.”
During his time in Manning, Coker played under coaches John Thames, Shad Hall, Maxie Knowlton and J.C. Britton, all of whom he holds in high regards.

Reagan Marie McElveen was crowned Young Miss Striped Bass Festival 2016 on Saturday night at Weldon Auditorium. Karley Denice Brown was named 1st runner up while Elizabeth Carrie Fleming was 2nd runner up. Emily Porter Davis was given the Most Photogenic Award.

East Clarendon Middle-High School student William Anderson received second place in the Mathematics category of the Junior Division of the Sand Hills Region IV Science Fair. He and other winners were honored Thursday during a program at Francis Marion University. More than 225 students from 14 area schools participated in the science fair.

Anna Creighton Smith was crowned Teen Miss Puddin’ Swamp 2016 on Saturday night at East Clarendon High School. Lilly Blakelyn Coker was named the 1st runner up, while Kyn Mills was named the 2nd runner up. Smith was also given the Most Beautiful Award, while Most Photogenic went to Coker and Best Smile went to Mills.
