Sheard named MJHS Teacher of the Year

Lanesha S. Sheard has been named the Manning Junior High School Teacher of the Year. Sheard has five years of teaching experience, all of them with Clarendon School District 2, and she currently teaches seventh and eighth grades at the junior high school. "The most rewarding part of my career in education is being able to make a difference in the lives of adolescents and building positive relationships with them," she said. "At such a critical time in their lives, learning about my students and what they feel is important allows me to become a better teacher for them." Sheard has a bachelor of science degree in organizational management from Claflin University in Orangeburg, and received her teacher certification through the Program for Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE). She is a member of the Palmetto State Teachers Association. She is active in the community through her church, Parlerville AME Church in Santee, where she assists in providing an annual dinner for seniors and disability assistance recipients. She also helps the the church's yearlong clothing drive for recently paroled inmates for work. She has a son, Cameron Glenn-Sheard, 10, and a daughter, Cadyn Sheard, 3.
