Curry named Manning High Teacher of the Year

Tess Maren Curry has only been with Manning High School for two years, but she’s already made waves in her time as a physical science and physics teacher. A graduate of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she received a bachelor of science degree in biology with a music minor, Curry is currently enrolled in the master’s of education of teaching graduate program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. “The most rewarding part of my career in education has been working with motivated high school students who have fun engaging in hands-on projects,” said Curry. “As a science teacher, I am able to share my love for science with my students. It is incredible to watch your students grow their subject knowledge within such a short amount of time.” Curry is a member of the South Carolina Coaches Association and the National Association of Biology Teachers. At Manning High, Curry is also th assistant varsity girls’ basketball coach and the assistant varsity and junior varsity soccer coach. “I have grown to know many athletes and their families whom I normally would not encounter during the school day,” she said. “This opportunity within the school has provided me the pathway to grow within the community.” Curry is the daughter of a professor of philosophy at the Southern University of New York Potsdam and a high school physical education teacher. One of her brothers, a musician, lives in Virginia, while the other is completed his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania.
