Lake Marion Artisans hosting fundraiser for scholarship fund

Posted
The Lake Marion Artisans Guild is once again sponsoring a $500 college art scholarship to a local Clarendon County high school student. The David and Shirley Manley Scholarship was first awarded in 2014. The Manleys moved to Summerton in 2006. David is retired from the U.S. Navy and Shirley from the federal government. Both had an interest in art and both joined the Lake Marion Artisans Guild in 2009. David died in 2013 and Shirley passed in 2014. As a tribute to their love of art and each other, the guild started the scholarship award and this is their third year of recognizing a local art student in their memory. In May, the gallery will have an exhibit by the students that participated in the scholarship application process, and the presentation of the award will be given at the opening reception. This year's fundraising event for the scholarship fund will be held 4-6 p.m. April 16 at the gallery. The event, a wine and cheese tasting, is appropriately called Meet Me at the Gallery. This event is always fun and enjoyable and a great way to spend time with friends while supporting a great "artistic" cause. Tickets are $25 and include entertainment, heavy appetizers and door prizes. Wine and cheese will be presented and discussed by Suzanne Reinhard, owner of Santee Landing Fine Wine and Gifts Co. of Santee. Tickets may be purchased from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 108 Main St. in Summerton. For more information, call (803) 934-6700.
