Walker-Gamble Elementary School in New Zion has received a $2,500 donation from America's Farmers Grow Communities. The initiative is sponsored by the MOnsanto Fund, and the monies were directed to the school by local farmer Mack Beard Sr. of Barrineau.

The donation will help the school with supplies and materials needed to continue the daily work with children in K4 through fifth grades, Principal Sheila Floyd said.

Beard has farmed in Clarendon and Florence counties for decades and has had children and grandchildren attending Walker-Gamble Elementary School. He currently has a granddaughter, Deane Burrows, teaching at the school and a grandson, Judson Beard, who is a fourth-grade student at the school.

"Walker-Gamble is very appreciative of this donation and of the Beard family's support of the school for many years," Floyd said.
