Eight juveniles were given citations early Sunday morning for drinking underage at a home in the Pine Lake Court area of Manning after deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office received a report of a party going on at the location. According to reports, deputies responding to the home came in contact with the home's owner, who said that he'd just come home from a local restaurant. He allowed deputies to enter the home, where they reportedly smelled "the odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the home," reports indicate. Deputies allegedly found the teens - seven girls and one boy, according to reports, all of whom were 15 and 16 - who admitted to drinking. Deputies had the teens call their parents as they were not able to drive due to the drinking. Deputies confiscated an open box of Bud Light and also noticed a big trash bag "full of cans of Bud Light and Cran Beerita's," reports stated. The suspects were issued citations for minor in possession by consumption or were given Department of Juvenile Justice referall forms. Deputies also "did explain the dangers of drinking and being underage," reports state. The juveniles told deputies that the home owner "did not know what was going on" and that the home owner did not supply the alcohol. The Manning Times does not release the names of juveniles or those charged with first offenses. Minor in possession is a magistrate-level offense.
