A 45-year-old Manning woman was charged with driving under the influence after police, knowing she was intoxicated, spotted her getting in her vehicle and attempting to leave her home about 8:50 p.m. Feb. 17. According to reports, the incident began when a 52-year-old Manning man notified police that he and his two children had left the home and were waiting in the parking lot at Weldon Auditorium. Manning police went to the man's home, where the woman said she and her husband had n argument over dinner and he left with the children. Police advised the woman that the man was "well within his rights as a father to take the kids and go somewhere for the night." Police left the home to meet with the man at Weldon, where he said the suspect had been hitting him, and that one of the children called 911 initially. At this point, the woman called police and said she wanted someone to come back to the home. As police headed toward the home, they spotted the woman driving a black SUV down her driveway toward the street. Police blocked the driveway so she couldn't leave. Police reported that the woman showed signs of impairment in all instances of field sobriety tests. Her blood alcohol content was reportedly 0.19 on a breathalyzer test at the Clarendon County Detention Center. The Manning Times does not report the name of suspects charged with first offenses.
