Schumacher: CHS earns ‘prestigious certification’

Clarendon Health System is one of five healthcare facilities in South Carolina to receive ISO 9001 Certification from the DNV-GL.
Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer Paul Schumacher made the announcement Wednesday, praising the hospital’s staff for “its commitment to patient safety and quality care.”

B-team Saints fall to Colleton Prep

The Clarendon Hall boys B-team lost Wednesday to Colleton Prep by a score of 35-11. Louie Hendricks led the Saints with nine points and nine rebounds. Jonathan McIntosh added two points and eight rebounds. The team’s record is now 2-1. The team will play 4 p.m. Thursday at Andrew Jackson.

The Clarendon Hall girls B-team picked up a win Wednesday night in Summerton against Colleton Prep by a score of 19-18. Bailey Corbett lead the Lady Saints with seven points. Mattie Ziegler added four points. Their record is now 3-1 on the season.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have been 87 years old on Friday had he not been struck down by an assassin’s bullet on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

JV Saints defeat O. Christian

The Clarendon Hall JV boys evened up their record to 6-6 on the season Wednesday night in Summerton with a win over Orangeburg Christian 34-17. Wells Robinson led the Saints with 11 points and five rebounds. Thomas Stukes added 10 points and five rebounds. The Saints will play again Friday at Colleton Prep.

Miss Clarendon coming Feb. 6

The Miss Clarendon Scholarship Pageant is looking for ladies to sign-up and vie for the $500 scholarship and the Miss Clarendon crown come Feb. 6.
The Miss Clarendon Crew that guided 2013, 2014 and 2015 Miss Clarendons Elizabeth Black, Hannah Henshaw and Ariana Ruiz, respectively, are looking for more ladies this year for the Miss category, which covers ladies between the ages of 17 and 24.

Panola fire leaves local family homeless

A family living on Billups Road in Panola lost everything they own, including their home, early Wednesday morning after a fire.
Clarendon Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said Wednesday evening that Patsy Pugh and her family was not home at the time their wood-frame, single-story home caught fire.
“It was noticed by some of their neighbors and called into 911,” said Richbourg. “By the time we got there, it was well-involved: One whole section was already pretty much burned down, but still burning, and it was moving into the rest of the structure.”

Craig Devin Keels, 33, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, from injuries sustained in an automobile wreck.
Born Jan. 30, 1982, in Sumter, he was a son of James Frazier and Bennia Keels.
The family will receive friends at the home of his grandparents, Bennie and Shirley Keels, 116 Brace St. in Manning.

Charleston Southern announces Fall Dean’s List

James Allen “Brooksey” Brooke, 65, husband of Melanie Rose Hursh Brooke, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence
Born June 29, 1950, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he was a son of Patricia Dorothy Foster Hanner and the late John LeRoy Brooke. Today final day to register for Republican Presidential Primary

Voters interested in voting in the Republican Presidential Primary Feb. 20 must be registered with Clarendon County Voter Registration by 5 p.m. today, according to Director Shirley Black-Oliver.
Black-Oliver said initially that the State Election Commission was telling local election offices that the final day to register is Jan. 27, but that she was informed today that that deadline was incorrect.
