Micheal Jackson

HARTSVILLE – Michael Jackson, 52, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.
Born Friday, Jan. 24, 1964, in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Micheal L. Jackson Sr. and Margrite D. Jackson.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1104 Valley Creek Drive in Darlington.
Services have been entrusted to King-Fields Mortuary in Summerton. (803) 485-5039.

Blood donations urgently needed by American Red Cross

The American Red Cross urgently needs blood donors to make an appointment to give this winter.
Eligible blood donors of all types are needed, especially those with O, AB, B negative and A negative.
Blood is needed to respond to emergencies large and small, across the country every day. For Heather Von Glahn, it was a personal emergency – her 8-year-old daughter’s leukemia diagnosis – that inspired her to make the commitment to give blood regularly.

Lake Marion Bridge reopened

State Department of Transportation officials report that traffic has been moving slowly over the I-95 bridge over Lake Marion, but that traffic is moving again. The bridge had iced over earlier and DOT wanted travelers to avoid the area.


James Lee Young Sr.

On Friday, January 15, 2016, Mr. James Lee Young Sr., exchanged time for eternity at his home.
Born Jan. 24, 1941, in Manning, he was a son of the late Joe Young and Nettie Winn Young.
A service of remembrance was held Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 14362 Raccoon Road in the Jordan community of Clarendon County, where the Rev. Jonathan Mouzon, senior pastor, brought words of consolation.
Interment followed at State Cemetery in Manning.

Alfonza Mouzon Jr.

On Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, Alfonza “Sonny” Mouzon Jr., husband of the Rev. Mattie Dingle Mouzon, exchanged mortality for immortality at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter.
Born July 25, 1941, in Manning, he was a son of the late Alfonza “Wise” Mouzon Sr. and Willimena Fleming Mouzon.
A service of remembrance was held Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Biggers AME Church, 6208 Kingstree Highway in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Frankie D. White officiating.
Interment followed in Muldrow Cemetery in Manning.
The family received friends at the home, 1133 Sparkman Drive in Manning.

Lake Marion Bridge on I-95 closed due to ice

Officials have closed the bridge over Lake Marion on Interstate 95 due to icy conditions. Motorists are asked to avoid that area for the time being.


4 wrecks with no injuries on I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is currently dealing with four wrecks with no injuries and a traffic hazard along Interstate 95 between the 102 northbound mile-marker and the 119 northbound mile-marker. One of the wrecks is at the 99 southbound mile-marker. There is also a reported traffic hazard at the 102 northbound mile-marker. Reports do not specify what that hazard is. Be careful out there.
