On Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, Russell Tindal Jr., husband of Fannie Hennessee Tindal, exchanged time for eternity, at his home.
Born in the Panola section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Russell and Susan Bradford Tindal Sr.
Funeral services are incomplete and shall be announced by the Fleming and DeLaine Funeral home and Chapel.


Junior High Lady Monarchs defeat Furman

The Manning Junior High School Lady Monarchs defeated Furman 42-31. Taja Dow led the team with 15 points, while Sequio Juniois had 14 and Mya Smiling added nine. B. Tindal had 17 points for Furman. The Lady Monarchs wrap up their regular season Thursday at Ebenezer in Sumter. They start playoffs Feb. 1.


Wreck at June Burn, Black River roads

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with no further information at the intersection of Black River and June Burn roads. According to reports, dispatch has requested the Clarendon County Fire Department to the secene.


LMA boy’s B-team pick up first win of season

The Laurence Manning Academy boys’ B-team found their first win of the season Monday night against Heathwood Hall, with a score of 28-14. Aaron Carlton and A.J. Nelson each had six points, while Gabe Harris and Kyle Norton each had five. The team’s record is now 1-7 on the season.


LMA girls’ B-team defeats Heathwood Hall

The Laurence Manning Academy girls’ B-team defeated Heathwood Hall for the second game in a row on Monday night, with a score of 36-16. Lexi Bennett was the team’s high-scorer with 11 points. Breanna Boykin followed with eight points. Jamie Michelle Newman and Rollin Barwick each had four points. The team’s record is now 8-0.

Carol Ann Brookshire Bruce

SUMTER – Carol Ann Brookshire Bruce, 71, died Monday, January 25, 2016, at Tuomey Hospital.

Born July 31, 1944, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Lorine Branson Broadway. She was a real estate broker with Bruce and Associates for many years and she was a retired special investigator for the SC Real Estate Commission. She was a member of Lake Marion Baptist Church.

Rhonda Jayne Wilkes, 59, daughter of Clyde Alexander Wilkes Jr. and the late Jannie Lee Wilkes, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at her home.
Rhonda was born April 4, 1956, in Manning. She was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her father of Manning include brother, Clyde Alexander “Butch” Wilkes III of Manning.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Dale Roach officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nick Erickson. Burial will follow in Manning Cemetery.

Alcolu fire destroys family’s home, belongings

A family living on Plowden Mill Road in Alcolu lost their home and belongings late Sunday afternoon after a fire destroyed their home.
Clarendon County Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said that Jimmy and Crystal McPhail and their four children were not at home when the fire began. She said firefighters were called out about 3:22 p.m. Sunday to “an older home with several additions” at 14426 Plowden Mill Road in Alcolu.
She estimated property damage at about $90,000.

Thomas Ellison King and Paulette Gilford King of Manning announce the engagement of their son, Craig Quentin King, to Tasia Renee Wilson, daughter of Albert Brown and Alfreda Laverne Golden Brown of Irmo.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Elmore Golden and Naomi Golden. She received a bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of South Carolina and a master of arts in education from Southern Wesleyan University. JV Saints defeat Colleton Prep

The Clarendon Hall Junior Varsity Saints picked up a region win Friday, 34-29, at Colleton Prep. Thomas Stukes led the Saints with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Drew Hill added seven points, and Robbie James had six points and eight rebounds. The JV Saints are now 7-6 on the season. They will play again Tuesday at Holly Hill Academy.

HIDDENTITE – Doris Jean Tedder Rigby, 81, of Hiddenite, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at her home.
Born June 19, 1934, in Iredell County. she was a daughter of the late Jasper Jessie Tedder and Viola Kirkman Tedder. She was self-employed in poultry farming.
She was preceded in death by a son, Reid Eugene (Chuck) Stroud; and a great-grandson, Christopher Reid Caudill; and two brothers, Garland Aaron Tedder and Franklin Tedder.
