No, no one won the lottery in Clarendon County. But Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg surely gave away 4.5 percent of his billion-dollar stock as posts on his creation touted throughout December.
Perhaps you saw the message, which was posted ad nauseum over the Christmas holidays”

Mary Bannister Boatwright

BROOKLYN, New York – Mary Bannister Boatwright, 69, widow of James Boatwright, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn.
Born March 29, 1946, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Willie Dow and Lila Mae Bannister and the stepdaughter of Mary Jane Glover Dow.
The family will receive friends at the home of her cousin, Janet Junius, 2046 Gov. Richardson Road in Summerton.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.


Habitat restored, safety improved when prescribed burns used

Many species and ecosystems require fire periodically to ensure their survival, and that’s why prescribed burns are conducted on many of the state Department of Natural Resources’ heritage preserves.
“The objective of prescribed burns is to maintain the ecological integrity of these lands,” said DNR wildlife biologist, forester and heritage preserve manager Johnny Stowe. “(They are also used) to provide for human safety by reducing the amount of fuel on the preserves, thereby reducing the chance of catastrophic wildfire. For many of these ecosystems, it’s not a matter of ‘if’ they will burn, but rather ‘when.'”

Lynwood Gamble

SAVANNAH, Georgia – Lynwood “Bubba” Gamble, 63, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
Born Sept. 22, 1952, in Manning, he was a son of Junious Gamble and Beatrice Samuels Gamble.
Celebratory services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning.
Burial will follow in Friendship Presbyterian Church cemetery in New Zion.
Services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
