A family living on Plowden Mill Road in Alcolu lost their home and belongings late Sunday afternoon after a fire destroyed their home. Clarendon County Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said that Jimmy and Crystal McPhail and their four children were not at home when the fire began. She said firefighters were called out about 3:22 p.m. Sunday to "an older home with several additions" at 14426 Plowden Mill Road in Alcolu. She estimated property damage at about $90,000. "I'd say that the home was a total loss, including belongings," Richbourg said. "We currently have no immediate cause, and the fire is still under investigation."
