The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the midlands. This advisory includes a message saying that freezing rain is likely through at least 2 p.m. Saturday in the midlands, including Clarendon County. Some light snow and sleet are also possible in parts of the midlands. The overnight forecast is slightly below freezing. The state Department of Transportation said that this will produce hazardous driving conditions throughout the area. DOT advises motorists to stay home if at all possible, and to be careful of bridges, as they will ice before roads.

    1. Best bet, stay home &/or off the roads. 2. If you absolutely must drive (some folks work in health care, public safety, etc) reduce your speed by at least 25% of the posted limit or slower. 3. Under no circumstances use cruise control. 4. “Black Ice” will appear to be wet roads & tends to gather on bridges & over passes but is also on ground level roads, if you hit some do not hit the breaks or over correct, steer in the direction of the skid not away from it. 5. If you are in a hurry weigh being late against your vehicle, your life & the lives of others. 6. Do not tailgate, allow 3 times the regular length between your vehicle & those in front of you. 6. Be aware of escape routes. But your best option is to stay home with those you love & who would miss you if you never came back home.
