A note from Sen. Kevin Johnson

Posted

As you may be aware, Tuesday, January 12th was the first day of the second year of this legislative session. This session should end on the first Thursday in June.

When we return tomorrow, many challenging issues await us. Perhaps the most challenging issue will be trying to agree on a funding source for our crumbling and dismal highway infrastructure. In my opinion, 2016 must be the year that we begin to repair and replace, in some cases, our highways, roads and bridges. Also, because of the Abbeville Court Case, we must also address the inequities in funding for our public school system. Because of the ‘Once in a Thousand Year’ flood that impacted our area, disaster assistance will also be a priority this year. Other issues will be affordable healthcare, abortion, gun control and the state budget, to name a few. On top of that, this is an election year for all members of the SC General Assembly, all Senators and House members.

As usual, I plan to keep the citizens of Senate District 36 informed about the actions that we take during the legislative year. My monthly newsletter will be printed in the Manning Times and will be sent via email If you are no longer interested in receiving these e mails, please let me know. Likewise, if you know anyone else who wants to receive this information, I just need their e mail address.

As always, please feel free to contact me or my office at any time that I or my staff may be of assistance to you. We would love for you to visit if you are in Columbia while we are in session.
